Deep TMS treatment

What is Deep TMS

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a safe, effective, FDA-approved, non-invasive, and non-convulsive cutting-edge treatment for depression.

While TMS has been available for many years, Advanced Practice Medical Group now offers a newer and more effective version called Deep TMS by Brainsway. In a head-to-head clinical study, Deep TMS demonstrated superior performance in alleviating depression symptoms compared to regular TMS.

How does Deep TMS treatment work?

Deep TMS treatment uses magnetic pulses, similar to those from an MRI machine, to stimulate multiple brain areas involved in depression, enhancing their overall function. Unlike regular TMS, Deep TMS employs an H-coil magnet design that targets a larger surface area of the brain and penetrates deeper brain structures. This design likely accounts for its superior performance compared to regular TMS.

What does Deep TMS treatment feel like?

You will remain awake and alert throughout the entire treatment session and can resume your daily activities immediately afterward, with no impact on your cognitive abilities or alertness. The treatment should not be painful. During the session, you may experience mild muscle twitches in your face or jaw clenching; therefore, we offer complementary bite-guards if needed. Some patients may also experience headaches and mild scalp irritation, but these typically resolve after the first few treatments as your body adjusts to the procedure. More serious side effects, such as seizures, are rare.
